It doesn’t matter what color merle or what breed they are. If two merle dogs are bred together, each puppy in the litter has a 25% chance of being born a double merle. A double merle inherits the merle gene twice. One copy of the merle gene causes a marbling effect on the coat and creates lighter spots throughout the solid color coat.
The MC1R gene is commonly associated with the red coloration in Border Collies, giving dogs designations such as ee red or Australian red. The “ee” name refers to the MC1R recessive trait that causes phaeomelanin production instead of eumelanin. The red merle bitch puppy on the left is called Dakota Of Maranns Home and the red merle male on the right is Falconmoor Merle Invasion, called Indy. Indy is an English import. Both beautiful dogs live in Belgium with Marnix and Christel van den Steen, who own the Border Collie kennel Of Maranns Home.Photo about Ee red Border Collie puppy.
